Atiku Abubakar, Former Vice President of Nigeria has frowned at the continuous kidnap of students in places of learning in Nigeria.
The former Vice President in a post on his verified Twitter page on Thursday indicated this while reacting to news of students abduction in Government secondary schools in Kaya, Zamfara State.
Abubakar condemned the abduction warning that it may lead to irreversible losses in the already disadvantaged region.
The former Vice President told the Federal Government to have a School Protection Standby Unit deployed exclusively to protect schools in areas prone to attacks.
He also expressed hope that the government does all in its power to free the abducted students.
”I am saddened by reports of yet another abduction of students in Zamfara. For a region that’s playing catch-up in the critical area of education, this continued assault on the bedrock of our development is not acceptable,” Atiku tweeted.
”Perhaps the time has come to have a School Protection Standby Unit deployed exclusively to protect schools in areas prone to these attacks. If we don’t take preemptive actions, I fear that education in the already disadvantaged regions may suffer irreversible losses.
”Meanwhile, I hope that no effort will be spared for a speedy recovery of the students.”
