Operatives of Port Harcourt Local Government Security Watch have apprehended about 12 suspected internet fraudsters, otherwise known as ‘Yahoo, Yahoo Boys’ for allegedly burying a newborn baby in a shallow grave as part of money making ritual.

Chairman of the Port Harcourt Security outfit, Victor Ohaji, said members of his group got a tip that some internet fraudsters were carrying out fetish activities at the Andoni waterfront in Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Wednesday morning.

Ohaji said investigation by his men led to the discovery of the buried baby and confirmed that they trailed the suspects numbering about 12 to one hotel near the area and arrested them.

He added that the suspects and the dead baby were handed over to operatives of Azikiwe Police Division at Eagle Island.

It was discovered that the internet fraudsters buried the newborn baby after they were alerted of their activities by youths in the area and that the youths who saw the Yahoo boys carrying out suspicious activities at the waterfront had alerted the vigilante group who promptly send some of its members to the area.

But it was learnt that the Yahoo boys had returned to their hotel before the arrival of the vigilante operatives.

However, a careful examination of the area revealed that the suspected Yahoo boys buried an item after performing some rituals.

The vigilante operatives discovered that a baby was buried when they dug out what was buried.

It was not clear whether the baby was alive or dead before it was buried by the suspected fraudsters.

The suspects are said to have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Rivers State Police Command in Port Harcourt.

The Police are yet to speak on this incident at the time of filing this report.
