Terrorists ambushed vehicles conveying passengers from Mai Dabino to the Yantumaki community, in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State where a market opens every Friday for business.
It was gathered that during the attack, seven persons lost their lives while dozens of others sustained injuries, with most of those affected said to be women and children.
The incident which occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, happened when several vehicles were ferrying traders and other passengers along the Mai Dabino-Yantumaki road.
One of the sources said that the road is notorious for cases of incessant attacks and abductions by terrorists and that security operatives often needed to escort vehicles plying the road to check such incidents.
However, it is unclear if the terrorists were able to abduct some of the passengers, but it was learnt that the terrorists set fire to at least five of the passenger vehicles.
It was also learnt that security operatives have secured the incident scene, while the dead and injured have been evacuated for burial and hospital treatment, respectively.
Spokesperson for the police command in the state, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, who confirmed the incident, however said he would revert with details on the incident.
