Police in Lagos arrested two suspects following the crisis that rocked Ogba area of Lagos on Thursday night, which led to the death of a 36-year-old man Abiodun Hassan on Friday morning.

The suspects Nura Seyidu and Yusuf Abubakar, were arrested over their involvement in the death of Abiodun Hassan.

It was learned that at about 11 PM on Thursday some group of motorcycle riders in Oluwole area of Ogba attacked a mini commercial bus thinking they were police officers enforcing Lagos law on motorcycle riders.

They allegedly used a knife to inflict open injury on the chest of Abiodun Hassan.

However, trouble started when Abiodun gave up the ghost after he was rushed to LASUTH Ikeja for treatment.

The news of the victim’s death sparked a clash in the community grounding commercial activities within and around Oluwole Market in Ogba, Ojodu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

The crisis which degenerated terribly led to the destruction of food items including peppers, onions, and tomatoes as traders had to vacate the vicinity.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said: “At about 11 pm on 22/02/2024 some group of motorcycle riders at Oluwole area of Ogba attacked a commercial bus known as korope thinking they are police officers enforcing Lagos law on motorcycle riders they also used a knife to inflict open injury on the chest of one Abiodun Hassan. The victim was later rushed to LASUTH Ikeja for treatment where he gave up the ghost.”

Explaining further, Hundeyin said: “A team of policemen swiftly went into action arresting two suspects namely Nura Seyidu and Yusuf Abubakar were arrested. Police detectives who visited the scene of the crime took photographs.”

“Suspects will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID Panti, for further investigation”, he added.

Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Mainland morgue.
