A suspected female stolen car receiver, Veronica Anyanwu, 38 and her two accomplices Chimezie Ekezie, 47, and Kingsley Godwin, 45have been arraigned before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a two-count charges bordering on conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

Police prosecuting Counsel, CSP Charles Onwumere informed the Court in the charge marked M/01/2022 that the defendants committed the offence in October 2021 in Lagos State.

Onwumere told the Court that the defendants had been receiving stolen cars from suspected robbers operating in Lagos for long before nemesis caught up with them.

He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under sections 411 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate, Mrs Gbajumo Ayoku granted them N1 million bail each and two sureties each in like sum.

Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) team of the Nigeria Police, Abuja, arrested the suspects and recovered two stolen Lexus SUV, valued at N8, 000, 000 from them.

Police alleged that nemesis caught up with the suspects when the office of the Inspected General of Police, IGP received credible information that cars stolen from Lagos State and other parts of Nigeria were being received and sold in Abuja.

Police further alleged that following the information, operatives of the SWAT swung into action and that after weeks of intelligence gathering, the team swooped on Anyanwu in Abuja where she allegedly displayed two of the stolen SUVs for sale.

During investigation, according to the Police, Anyanwu allegedly confessed to the crime that she had been receiving stolen vehicles from Lagos State for long and reselling them to unsuspecting members of the Public.

Anyanwu also allegedly confessed that she recruited Chimezie Ekezie and Kingsley Godwin to be driving the stolen vehicles to her base in Abuja, Nigeria.

The two vehicles recovered from the suspects were Lexus SUVs with number plate JJJ 433 HJ and APP 909 FK.

Ayoku adjourned the case till 28 February, 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendants be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till they perfected the bail conditions.
