At the just concluded council polls held on Saturday in Benue, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) cleared all the 23 local government areas.

The Chairman of Benue State Independent Electoral Commission(BSIEC) Mr. Tersoo Loko, disclosed this on Sunday while declaring the results at the commission’s headquarters in Makurdi.

Loko said PDP emerged the winner by beating All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and Labour Party (LP) to clench all the council seats in addition to 276 councillorship positions.

He thanked his team for a free, fair, and credible election.

Loko stated that this would be the last election he would be conducting as the chairman of BSIEC.

He also thanked the people of Benue for their support and was happy that no violence was recorded in any of the polling units.

The All Progressives Congress had in February announced it will not participate in the local government election in the state.

The State Chairman of the party, Austin Agada said: “On the forthcoming Benue State local government elections, we have consulted widely and come to the painful conclusion that our party will not field candidates for the selection (election) process owing to the dishonest manner the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission has been conducting their affairs.

“We can gauge the end from the beginning that the system would not guarantee an iota of fairness to contestants on the APC platform.”
