Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Friday, staged a solidarity march in support of the embattled Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The march took place in front of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Friday.
The unions staged the rally in collaboration with students, youths, civil society organisations, labour unions, and members of the Hausa community in the state.
The rally comes few days after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the political crisis rocking the state
Recall that Rivers State has been embroiled in political turmoil over the control of the state between the former Governor Nyseom Wike and Fubara.
The political crisis between Wike and Fubara has caused a split among the lawmakers in the House with 27 of them decamping from the PDP to the ruling APC, a party in whose central government Wike currently serves as minister.
In the wake of the crisis, the governor was served impeachment notice.
The crisis also witnessed the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a gale of resignations of pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.
But a resolution seemed to have been reached after President Tunubu had a meeting with the warring parties on Monday.
