The Chairman of Transworld Security System Limited; Dr. Ona Ekhomu whose death was announced on Tuesday has continued to attract tributes in glowing terms from a cross section of Nigerians from within and outside the country.
From far away New York in United States of America, the Executive Director of Crime Victims Foundation of Nigeria (CRIVIFON); a non-governmental organization; Barr. (Mrs) Gloria Egbuji who is currently on holidays described Ekhomu as “a gentleman par excellence. He made great impact in the security world. He will be sorely missed but his legacy will live on. My sincere condolences to his family,” she said.
A former presidential candidate in the 2019 election and Chairman, King David Group of Companies, Dr. Davidson Akhimien like many other Nigerians, is greatly saddened by the death of Ekhomu. According to him, “words cannot express the sorrow we feel for the loss of our great ICON and DOYEN of private security in Nigeria; Dr. Ona Ekhomu. We are however consoled by the quality of impact his life made upon lives and both in the security sector and elsewhere. He was a mentor to many of us. Dr. Ona never died. He lives on through the lives of those of us he touched. Adieu great soul.”
Pioneer President of Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) and retired Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN); Mr. Julius Enehikhuere has this to say:. “Ekhomu was a patriot whose passion was how to handle security matters that plagued our country. He never stopped coming up with solutions and telling governments of the need to upgrade and modernize security apparati. He served this country with all his heart. We shall greatly miss him. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
A retired General from Nigeria Army and member of Ekhomu-led Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON), Dike Nnaa has this to say: “Sad to hear. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Praying also that God Almighty grants his immediate family and friends the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
According to Mr. Matthew Ibadin of Badinson Security, “Dr. Ona Ekhomu was a visionary to be reckoned with. He was my teacher. He delivered a lecture organised by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Victoria Island on Practical Implementation of Community Policing. He was one who had the interest of the community at heart and always at the fore to fight against any form of crime. Chief Ona was an icon in the security industry and encouraged me to register my security company because he was enthusiastic about progress and development of those around him.”
A police officer and member of AISSON, Emeka Opara said “what a devastating news. That the Iroko is gone. A great teacher, mentor who boldly and intellectually took industrial security practice in Nigeria from a neglected often divided position, to an enviable level. Your exit from the stage has already created a vacuum too big to fill but God knows why. Rest in peace Ogbeni.”
Security consultant and Managing Director of Boyson Nigeria Limited; Dr. Nnamdi Naps Okonkwo in his words of tribute said: “Dr. Ona Ekhomu, a consummate security icon, an astute professional property protector, world class security lecturer and a security mentor just died of only a brief illness. Just like that? Oh death, how wicked art thou? Oh death, how are the mighty fallen. My brother you were such a fine gentle man. A pillar of security profession. You were the best. We shall miss you a great lot forever. We pray God to grant him eternal. And Grant his family the fortitude to bear the great loss. Oh, my friend Ona Ekhomu. Do rest in peace.”
