Insecurity affecting Nigerian students, has become a threat to their access to education.

The national leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, led by the Universal President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, submitted during a courtesy call on the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, in Abuja.

The association, therefore, urged the federal government to step up efforts at improving security in and around schools nationwide.

“Our visit to the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, focused on the issue of insecurity affecting Nigerian students, which has become a threat to their access to education.

“We expressed our concerns about the increasing number of student abductions, with the most recent unfortunate incident being the kidnapping of over 200 students from GSS, Kuriga in Chikun Local Government of Kaduna State. We are of the view that the security architecture in and around our schools be improved on.

“In response, the Minister briefed us on the major actions currently being taken to address this issue, including a directive from the President to immediately rescue all kidnapped victims across the country.

“We also expressed our commendations to the Honourable Minister for the successful rescue of the kidnapped students at Federal University, Gusau and improved security across the nation.

“We want to assure Nigerian students that the NANS Rebirth team will continue to represent their needs, interests, and aspirations regarding matters that affect their well-being.”
