…To strengthen collaboration with Ondo, Ekiti governments

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 17 AIG, Abiodun Asabi, has embarked on a working visit of the zone to present a white paper for counteroperation against security challenges.

Asabi, during his working visit to the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in Akure, expressed the readiness of the men and officers in the zone to strengthen collaboration with the Ondo and Ekiti state governments to tackle insecurity and other crimes in the states.

The AIG, disclosed that he had been briefed about the efforts of the government in Ondo and Ekiti states to stem the rate of crimes and insecurity in the zone, expressing his readiness to work together with them to fight insecurity in the states.

Asabi explained that the white paper contained various measures to stem the tide of security challenges bedevilling the zone.

He said, “We should not underestimate the capability of the police in the two states; hence, what is needed is the support of the state governments in boosting our capacity for the benefit of the people”.

Governor Aiyedatiwa while responding, expressed the readiness of the Ondo State government to collaborate with police to achieve desired results in the area of insecurity.

Aiyedatiwa pledged that the state government will study the proposal while swift action will be taken to tackle and chase criminals out of the state.

The AIG was accompanied by Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo Peter, his Ekiti State counterpart, Akinwale Adeniran, Deputy Commissioners of Police in Charge of Operations in Ondo, Ekiti and the Zonal headquarters.

 

 

 

 

President Bola Tinubu has lifted sanctions against the Republic of Niger  with immediate effect.

In a statement issued by presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale on Wednesday, the President also directed the opening of Nigeria’s land and air borders with the country.

Ngelale said this directive was in compliance with the decisions of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at its extraordinary summit on February 24, 2024, in Abuja.

ECOWAS leaders had agreed to lift economic sanctions against the Republic of Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

Ngelale said Tinubu had directed that the following sanctions imposed on the Republic of Niger be lifted immediately: Closure of land and air borders between Nigeria and Niger Republic, as well as ECOWAS no-fly zone on all commercial flights to and from Niger Republic and the suspension of all commercial and financial transactions between Nigeria and Niger, as well as freeze of all service transactions, including utility services and electricity to Niger Republic.

Tinubu also directed that frozen assets of the Republic of Niger in ECOWAS Central Banks and frozen assets of the Republic of Niger, state enterprises, and parastatals in commercial banks be unfrozen immediately.

The president added that the suspension of Niger from all financial assistance and transactions with all financial institutions, particularly EBID and BOAD be lifted, while travel bans on government officials and their family members should also be lifted.

Tinubu has also approved the lifting of financial and economic sanctions against the Republic of Guinea.
