Nigeria’s former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) has every reason to thank God as his son Mohammed Babangida, narrowly escaped death on Monday evening when his convoy ran into a trailer loaded with tomatoes along Minna-Suleja highway.
Three of the security guards, all soldiers were however not quite lucky as they died in the accident after their black Prado jeep had a head on collusion with the trailer traveling in an opposite direction.
SECURITY REPORTERS.com gathered that Mohammed Babangida who was heading to Abuja for an engagement was said to be in a Honda space bus with other members of his family behind the security vehicle.
Although no member of the Babangida family was hurt, three of the security personnels in the jeep died on the spot while one is critically injured and currently receiving treatment at the national hospital in Abuja.
Though details of how the accident occurred were still very sketchy as at press time, an eyewitness told SECURITY REPORTERS.com that the bad portion of the dual carriage highway at Mallam Karu village where all vehicles divert to one lane was responsible for the head on collusion between the trailer and the convoy.
Sympathizers have continued to troop into the up hill mansion of the former Military President over the unfortunate development.
