Gunmen have attacked Wuro Musa area of Jalingo, Taraba state abducting ten individuals in the early hours of Friday.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Usman Abdullahi, assured the public that the police are actively pursuing the abductors and urged anyone with relevant information to assist the authorities in their efforts.
According to the police spokesperson, “Ten persons were kidnapped at about 00.40 hours in Wuro Musa today (Friday).”
Residents of the affected community expressed concern about the rising insecurity, calling on the government to collaborate with security agencies for a swift and safe rescue of the victims.
Witnesses claimed that the kidnappers, who arrived in significant numbers, fired shots into the air to intimidate residents and facilitate their unhindered access to their targets.
Despite the police stating that ten persons were abducted, residents said the actual number is higher, with thirteen individuals reportedly taken, including four women.
Residents emphasized the urgent need for the state government to prioritize the safety of its citizens, given the frequent occurrence of kidnapping incidents in the state capital and its environs.
The abduction, as noticed by our correspondent, came on the heels of a recent declaration by the United Methodist Church in the state, stating that they would resort to self-defence if the federal and state governments fail to address the growing threat posed by kidnappers and bandits in the state.
At the time of filing this report, several persons who were kidnapped in Dila and Pupule villages of Yorro council before the Yuletide celebration, are yet to regain their freedom.
