No fewer than five people have been killed when cult groups renewed their hostility at Ijoko, a suburb of Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.
Although the cause of the fight between Eiye and Aiye confraternity cult groups is unknown, the Ogun State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said 13 people have been arrested in connection with the killings.
Oyeyemi added that investigation into the matter was currently ongoing.
“Yes, I am aware of the killings, we have arrested 13 people so far and we are also carrying out investigations,” he told PM NEWS.
In the past the Ijoko area was a battle ground for cultists before the police waded in and the area became calm.
The resurgence of cultism in the area is a cause for worry. The fight between these two rival cult groups have forced many residents to flee the area and many shops closed.
Attempt to speak with the Sango Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, ACP Muyideen A. Obe has proved abortive as he did not pick his call at the time of filing the report.
