The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has called on victims of sexual assaults to continue demanding for justice.

The agency made the appeal in a tweet posted on its official Twitter handle @LSdvsa on Wednesday while commending a court judgment sentencing a cleric, Obasanmi Waliyullah, to 21 years imprisonment for attempted sexual assault.

DSVA said that justice had been served after the court found the defendant guilty of the offence and was consequently sentenced.

“Justice has been served, his name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by Lagos State,” it stated.

It also stated that the agency reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance stance while restating its commitment to helping survivors of sexual offences and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

“We remain committed to helping survivors and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

“Let us continue to demand justice for survivors.

“To report domestic or sexual violence, please call- 08000 333 333,” it stated.

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday sentenced the convict, an Islamic teacher, Obasanmi Waliyullah, to 21- year-imprisonment for defiling a 15-year-old pupil.

Justice Rahman Oshodi sentenced him following his guilty plea to the two amended charges of attempted sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child.

The judge convicted and sentenced Waliyullahi to 14 years imprisonment for the first count of attempting to commit sexual assault by penetration and seven years for the second count of indecent treatment of a child.
