Fire has completely razed down the massive sawmill and plank market located at Jakande Estate Gate by NNPC off Iyana Ejigbo area in Ejigbo council area of Lagos State.
Goods worth several millions of naira, mainly logs of woods, timber, planks, gallons of paint, ceiling boards and other building materials and personnel effects were consumed by the inferno.
As at the time of filing this report, the fire has razed down a substantial part of the market.
Traders were seen wiping uncontrollably and those who made brisk Christmas sales and kept the money in their shops lamented their misfortune.
One fire fighter truck was sighted but it could not access the market due to the construction defects of the market.
Sympathizers and some traders were seen salvaging their goods or little they could; even as area boys and thieves were also seen looting.
Security operatives were yet to arrive the scene. Some good Samaritans were fighting the looters.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained, although eye witnesses said it was due to power surge resulting in a spark in one of the plank stalls.
