A 22-year-old girl has been allegedly killed by her boyfriend in Mgbakwu, Awka North Local government area of Anambra State.
It was gathered that the suspect Ikenna Oraekie had been in the habit of beating the girl despite caution from neighbours.
An eye witness, Mrs Ngozi Nwude, said the deceased who was living with the suspect recently gave birth about six months ago, despite the fact that no bride price had been paid.
“She had been living with the suspect since. She is from Enugwu Agidi in Njikoka LGA of the state, but her mother is from Mgbakwu.
“The boy has been in the habit of beating her, now see the outcome,” she added.
Information has it that Oraekie was beating the deceased when she suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
According to the eye witness, angry youths upon seeing the corpse, descended on the suspect, beating him to stupor.
She said that they also tried to set him ablaze before Vigilante operatives waded in and whisked him away to their office from where police authorities were contacted.
It was learnt at the time of filing this report that the corpse of the deceased was still lying inside her room while youths besieged the Vigilante office demanding release of the suspect, so they will burn him alive.
Information has it that the community had in the past agreed that anyone that kills must be killed and his home set on fire.
The resolution followed similar incident that occurred in the community when a young man who killed a woman was also set ablaze with his house burnt by mob.
