Multiple suspected Boko Haram terrorist attacks have been recorded while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was collating results of Yobe East Senatorial by-elections.
According to Yobe State government, two persons were killed at an election collation centre in Kukareta, along Damaturu-Maiduguri road.
Confirming the incident in Damaturu, Security Adviser to the Governor, Maj-Gen Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), disclosed: “The residence of the District Head of Kukareta (name withheld) was torched, after the killing of two persons at the collation centre.”
He noted that the centre is about 20 kilometres east of Damaturu, the state capital.
Abdulsalam, however, assured both the electoral officials and residents to remain calm, as security agencies had been reinforced to complete the collation.
Terrorists also killed one person and injured another during an attack, on Sunday night, in Katsalle community, Kankara Local Council of Katsina State.
The terrorists also abducted many women and children, with community members, trying to ascertain the exact number of the victims.
A source said the terrorists killed a middle-aged man simply identified as Mallam Mustapha, and injured another called Mallam Rabiu.
Rabiu’s house was reportedly ransacked and set ablaze by the terrorists.
The source also said that women and children were kidnapped and whisked into the forest on motorcycles by the marauders.
Kankara is among council areas in the state facing incessant security challenges due to activities of terrorists, rustlers and kidnappers.
Hundreds of lives have been lost, injured or kidnapped in recent times in the affected areas, all of which share a border with a forest reserve that serves as terrorists’ hideout.
As at press time, spokesperson for the police command in the state, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, had yet to respond to inquiry on the incident.
