Suspected armed Fulani herdsmen reportedly attacked the Agagbe Internally Displaced Persons IDPs camp, Gwer West Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state killing three people.
It was gathered from a source in the camp that the victims were killed Monday afternoon at Tse-Anyion in Gbange/Tongov Council Ward of the LGA where they went fishing.
According to the source “the victims were waylaid by the assailants while on their way to the river Monday afternoon and murdered in cold blood.
“Among those killed was Clifford Akaa, a 50 IDP staying in the host community in Agagbe.
“He left for his village, Tse Anyiom, to fish and sell in order to provide food and also settle the medical bills of his sick wife. But armed Fulani herders ambushed and killed him with two others who went with him.
“Also killed in that ambush was 37 years old Clement Iorhemba who until his death lived in Block II room II of Agagbe IDP camp.
“Another victim was 55 years old Mr. Igbahemba Abua from Tse-Uhambe, a village after Tse Anyion in Gbange/Tongov Council Ward he was staying at block 2 room one RCM Agagbe.
“The victims have been buried because the corpses couldn’t have been kept any further.
“We are pained that our people are being killed after being sacked from our villages. We are appealing to the Federal and state governments to put an end to the activity of these killer herdsmen do that we can have peace and return to our ancestral land.”
Contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Catherine Anene said she had not received details of the incident.
