Another Oyo monarch passes on

Barely two weeks after the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, died at the age of 83, another prominent traditional ruler in Oyo state, the Oniijeru of Ijeru Kingdom in Ogbomoso South Local government area, Oba Elijah Olaniyi Popoola, has passed on.

Oba Elijah died peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, following a brief illness. He was 85.

Confirming the development, one of his sons, Moshood, said, “Baba woke up this morning, though he has been ill for a while, but he woke up this morning, we spoke and a few minutes after I left his palace for my house, I was called that Baba has joined the saints.

“Though it is painful, who are we to query God, who gives and takes at will, May God grant him eternal rest.”
