“Gbagede Oba”, a social interaction activity which is an all inclusive social gathering aimed at drawing sons and daughters of Akinale town from home and in diaspora to come home to evaluate necessary needed development programme in the town, has debuted in Akinale, Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun State.
The Akinale Community Development Association (CDA) formalised ceremonising the yearly. Muslim festival “Ileya” at the Palace of their traditional ruler under the social program.
Addressing the people at the gathering in Towulade’s Palace, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, commended the CDA leaders for their creativity and initiative to organise the event which has become a template for social development of Akinale.
Oba Ogunleye regretted that the current freeze in the economy of Nigeria has smeared the rural populace with poverty, calling for self-driven survival strategies.
The Monarch therefore, admonished all sons and daughters of Akinale to tighten their belts and evolve positive ideas that will utilise their natural resources for economic gains.
Earlier, the Chairman of the CDA Alhaji Dada Ogunniyi, said that the “Gbagede Oba” was conceived as a wake-up call to all Akinale natives home and abroad to felicitate with one another, using Ileya as a platform, where they can evaluate the state of their home and plan for sustainable development.
The people had a lot to eat and drink to mark the program.
