As earlier promised, the Nigeria Labour Congress embarked on a 2-day protest on Tuesday February 27, 2024.
The protesting workers led by the President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero stormed the National Assembly where they handed over their letter of demands.
The protesters wielded placards with inscriptions such as #End Poverty and Hunger#; Support Local Industries#; Fix Local Refineries, End Subsidy#; #End Naira Devaluation; Tax the Rich, Subsidise the poor#.
Receiving the letter was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, Employment, and Productivity, Senator Diket Plang.
The letter among other things, demanded the full implementation of the welfare provisions, employment generation, immediate subsidy to farmers to boost agricultural production, and the fixing the four refineries among others.
Ajaero while making his remarks at the National Assembly, said the peaceful protest was necessary because of the hunger in the land.
Plang in his response said that the National Assembly would not waste time to deliberate over the demands of the protesters.
