Police Command, Oyo State has confirmed that the Anglican Bishop of Jebba Anglican Diocese, Kwara State, Rt. Rev Oluwaseun Aderogba, his wife and driver have regained their freedom.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed in a statement, that the victims were released unhurt at about 18:20 pm on Tuesday.
Recall, Bishop Aderogba, his wife and the driver were abducted on Sunday night along the new Oyo/Ogbomosho Expressway in Oyo State. The gunmen set N50 million ransom on their heads.
The statement reads: “The Massive deployment of Police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of these entire areas by the Police Tactical teams pressurized the abductors into freeing the victims.”
Following the abduction, Osifeso said preliminary investigations revealed that before the incident, the victims’ vehicle had developed what seemed like a mechanical fault while traveling from Yewa in Ogun State to Jebba in Kwara.
Subsequently, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations of the Command was directed to oversee the case.
According to the PPRO, investigations are on-going to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.
It was not clear if ransom was paid for the release of Aderogba, his wife and driver.
It would be recalled that heavy ransom was paid to secure release of the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria His Eminence Uche-Kanu when he was kidnapped recently.
