The Zamfara State Police Command has reacted to a story published on Monday by a national day (name withheld) on the alleged killing of 23 persons during a recent clash between vigilante group and Fulani traders in Dansadau Market in Maru Local Government Area of the State.
While describing the story as unfounded and unsubstantiated, the Command’s spokesman SP Mohammed Shehu said, “to set the record straight of what happened in Dansadau on Friday 16th April, 2021, being the market day of Dansadau, Police operatives on Special Market Patrol at Dansadau repelled a market invasion by over 200 suspected bandits who stormed the market with intent to destabilise the marketing activities of the area.
“During the encounter, four traders who were scampering for safety got injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment.”
“This act if not promptly responded to and repelled would have caused chaos and security instability in the area.”
He stated that police operatives had since commenced a serious manhunt of the perpetrators of the dastardly act and a discreet investigation into the matter has commenced with a view to unravelling the circumstances behind the attempted invasion.”
“Any person or group found in connection with the act, such person or group will be made to face the full wrath of the law. The Command urges members of the public to desist from taking laws into their hands. Instead, they should work in synergy with the police by giving credible information on presence and activities of recalcitrant bandits and other criminal elements.”
