The newly elected Deputy Vice-chancellor, (Academics) of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Professor Andrew Efemini has reportedly died five days after his election.
According to reports, the late Professor of Philosophy was still awaiting the ratification of his elevation by the institution’s Governing Council but died in the early hours of Saturday.
SECURITY REPORTERS.com gathered that the late Efemini had been a diabetic patient for many years.
It is not yet certain if the cause of his death was linked to the terminal disease he had been battling with.
A source revealed that his immediate family has not officially communicated to the University about the sad demise of the Academic”.
The source also corrected social media reports that he was “appointed” as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, DVC, Academics.
“He was actually elected like other DVC designates awaiting confirmation from the Governing Council of the University and later sworn in and assume office,” the source added.
