The one-day national dialogue on security and State Police Organised by the leadership of the 10th House of Representatives is expected to have President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former President, Goodluck Jonathan, and former Head of State, General Abubakar Abdulsalam in attendance.
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio is expected to be the Guest of Honour at the occasion.
In the notice issued by the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Akin Rotimi explained that the “primary objective of this Dialogue is to facilitate a comprehensive national discussion on the merits and challenges of State Police, with a focus on aggregating citizens’ views and perspectives.
“The event also aims to propose model (s) as well as institutional and legal frameworks for the effective implementation of state policing in Nigeria.
“Aligned with the Legislative Agenda of the 10th Assembly House of Representatives, which seeks to develop legislative measures to address the prevailing security challenges in Nigeria, this Dialogue complements the president’s ongoing efforts to reform and strengthen the country’s security architecture for optimal performance.”
According to him, Chairmen of Sessions are: former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan; and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Other dignitaries invited include all 36 State Governors, Diplomatic Community, all Citizens of Nigeria.
Hon. Rotimi who noted that the Speaker while emphasising the urgency of the National Dialogue, stated that: “Insecurity in Nigeria demands urgent action and collective responsibility. The National Dialogue on Security and State Police provide a crucial platform for us to come together, engage in constructive dialogue, and propose actionable solutions.
“Let us seize this opportunity to strengthen our security architecture and ensure the safety and well-being of all Nigerians,” he urged.
