Authorities of the 81 Division of the Nigerian have enjoined members of the public particularly those residing in Ikoyi area of Lagos not to panic when they hear gunshots on Friday 4th February, 2022 as there would be 21 Gun Salute in honour of former Head of State, Chief Ernest Shonekan who would be buried Friday at Ebony Vaults and Garden, Ikoyi.
In a statement on Thursday the Acting Deputy Director, 81 Division Army Public Relations, Major Osoba Olaniyi encouraged members of the public particularly residents of the area to go about their normal business without.
The 21 Gun Salute is part of the activities for the state burial of Shonekan who was Head of the Interim National Government handed over to, by President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida when he stepped aside in August, 1993 after annulling the June 12, 1993 presidential election which Chief Moshood Abiola had won.
Shonekan was Nigeria’s head of state for 84 days before General Sani Abacha ousted him in a palace coup.
