Four traders using dye colourant called, ‘Jawa` in Hausa to adulterate palm oil in Jigawa state, have been arrested.
The Jigawa Consumer Protection Committee (CPC) said it arrested the suspects for being the suppliers of the product in Hadejia Local Government of the state.
The CPC Chairman in the state, Alhaji Farouk Abdallah, confirmed the arrest on Sunday.
Abdallah said that the suspects were apprehended on Saturday in Hadejia market, with two 25-litre jerry cans containing adulterated palm oil.
The chairman added that the suspects had confessed to committing the offence.
Abdallah, who warned traders against engaging in unwholesome practices to defraud consumers, vowed, ”anyone caught would be prosecuted.”
He added that the committee would continue to monitor markets, in order to protect consumers from adulterated foods, drugs and medication, as well as from shylock traders.
