Youths of Igbo extraction coming under the auspice of South East Youth stakeholders have asked the Federal and South East governors to unproscribe the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPoB) as a terrorist organization to compliment the genuine peace and reconciliatory efforts of Ohaneze Ndigbo.  They have also called for the release of all political prisoners of Igbo extraction.

This call was made on Thursday at Awka, Anambra State by the expanded Igbo Youth stakeholders comprising Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth, National Youth Council of Nigeria (Southeast),
Nigerian Youth Congress (Southeast), National Association of Nigerian Students (Southeast) and other youth leaders of South East extraction.

The youths meeting came barely 48 hours after the seventeen Southern governors met in Asaba, Delta State to take certain far reaching decisions, one of which is the ban on open grazing in any Southern States.

In the 13-point communique issued at the end of their meeting, the youths condemned in totality, the wanton destruction of lives and properties in the South East and called on the perpetrators of the criminal acts to desist from such and adopt a proper means of airing their grievances.

While commiserating with the bereaved families of those killed in the various violent incidents, the youths called on the South East Governors to synergize and liaise with the relevant stakeholders especially the youth to arrest the current security challenges in the South East.

The youths also expressed their unequivocal alignment with the resolution of the Southern governors and called for necessary legal framework for immediate implementation of the resolution.

Politically, the Youths noted that the South East has been marginalised over the years and declared that “for the sake of fairness, equity and justice, that every political party should zone its presidential candidate to the South East in the 2023 presidential election.
