Police detectives in Katsina on Sunday recovered no fewer than 38 cows, 11 sheep and one motor cycle from a group of bandits who stormed Gidan Duka Village, Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The bandits were said to have come in their numbers, armed with AK 47 rifles at about 0230 hours and attacked Gidan Duka village in Katsina State, rustled unspecified number of domestic animals.
It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Kankara and team swiftly responded to the distress call and chased after the hoodlums. The team intercepted the bandits at Danmarabu village and engaged them in a gun duel.
The bandits reportedly escaped into the forest abandoning all the rustled animals, comprising thirty-eight (38) cows and eleven (11) sheep. The team also recovered one Bajaj operational motorcycle belonging to the bandits.
The Katsina Police spokesman SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident and added that investigation was ongoing. He added that in another development, eleven kidnapped victims
of Sabongarin Safana were rescued by the police on Sunday based on credible intelligence.
The kidnapped victims were reportedly kept in a bandits’ hideout, at the outskirt of Tsaskiya village, Safana LGA of Katsina state.
The eleven victims were reportedIy attacked at Sabon Garin Safana village, on 12/11/2021 and kidnapped subsequently. They had been in captivity for two days before their rescue on Sunday.
Victims were taken to Dutsinma General Hospital for medical examination/treatment and have already been reunited with their respective families.
