The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Monday Bala Kuryas, fsi, has reassured that the Police and other security agencies will continue to work assiduously in curbing banditry and other criminality in the State.

The reassurance was contained in a refutaal statement which described as fiction a viral report that terrorists killed 44 villagers in Shiroro and Munya LGAs of Niger.

The police said the report on Monday was false, untrue and baseless, according to spokesman DSP Wasiu Abiodun.

The command acknowledged two previous attacks and said police tactical teams and other security agencies with vigilante have been drafted to these areas for reinforcement and rescue of kidnapped victims.

The Command stated that on 29/01/2022 at about 1530hrs, armed bandits/terrorists attacked join task force team base at Galadima-Kogo, in Shiroro LGA where the team engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle and as a result, some of the bandits were neutralised and others escaped with gunshot injuries. Unfortunately, eight civilians, eight task force members and a vigilante lost their lives.

“On 02/02/2022 at about 1420hrs, armed bandits attacked Zazagha and Kabulai village in Kazai ward via Sarkin-Pawa of Munya LGA killing two persons and abducted four victims from the village, while on 03/02/2022 at about 2145hrs, armed bandits attacked a military camp at Allawa without any report of lost of loss of life.

“However, Police tactical teams and other security agencies with vigilante have been drafted to these areas for reinforcement and rescue of kidnappped victims.

“The CP further admonished news reporters to verify their report adequately before publishing sensational stories that may cause panic,” the statement concluded.
