Police Lagos Command has assured residents that breakdown of law and order would not be allowed in view of the alleged plans by commercial motorcyclists to disrupt activities in Lagos State from June 1 over the ban of their operations in six Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The assurance followed apprehensive messages shared across social media platforms advising residents to stay indoors or close to their homes to avoid falling victims of the planned rampage by aggrieved motorcyclists.
It also alleged the riders had vowed to unleash mayhem starting from June 1 to drive home their displeasure.
Reacting to the viral message, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Command’s spokesman, said the Commissioner of Police (CP) has directed all necessary human, material and operational resources to be deployed across the State.
“A carefully drafted security architecture, resulting from a detailed crime-mapping of the state has been emplaced across the length and breadth of the state. In addition, all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders have been placed on red alert towards any eventuality.
“CP Alabi, therefore, enjoins all residents of Lagos State to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or intimidation before, during and after the touted date for the purported civil disturbance, as officers and men of the command are fully on top of the situation,” he said.
