There was pandemonium in Nnewi, Anambra State, Sunday afternoon when gunmen went on rampage in the industrial city.
Residents said the Nnewi office of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) was attacked by the gunmen who according to witnesses, drove from Owerri Road in four Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), stopped at Emecourt Road Junction where they released some gunshots which made passersby to scamper for safety.
The gunmen later drove through Nkwo Triangle Roundabout and moved towards Nnobi Road.
A passersby who was reportedly hit by a stray bullet was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Military armoured vehicle, according to the witnesses later surfaced and drove round town passing through Emecourt Road. But there was no exchange of fire as the military and the gunmen did not meet as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, a source hinted that at about 3pm, the personal House of Mr. Joe Igbokwe in Nnewi was razed down by unknown persons who had reportedly come with Jerry cans of petrol in a Sienna SUV vehicle.
Igbokwe is currently serving as a Special Assistant in Lagos State where he had served as Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
