Encroachers of Ondo State Government farm settlement have been warned to desist from selling and taking unauthorised possession of the lands, which are predominantly for farming.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Sunday Akintomide, gave this warning in Akure, Ondo State capital.
Akintomide maintained that the state government is not willing to sell any part of the land, but for farming.
He said the state government is aware that some people have been selling the lands to unsuspecting members of the public who were not aware that the land belongs to the government.
Akintomide, however, advised members of the public buying lands close to the farm settlements to make enquiry about the authenticity of the land at the appropriate quarters or Ministry of Lands before making payment for such land.
According to the Permanent Secretary, some of the farmlands that have been encroached include, Mariwo Farm settlement in Ifedore local government Area, Onisere Farm settlement in Idanre Local government area, Ile Oluji Farm settlement in Ile-Oluji Okeigbo local government area and Okitipupa Farm settlement in okitipupa local government area of the state.
He explained that the Mariwo farm settlement in Ifedore Local government area, Ondo State government has 270 hectares which start from Aponmu river beside Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, both left and the right sides up to Ero community, saying the land belongs to the state government.
Akintomide warned that anyone who buys land in these areas is buying at his/her own risk while warning land speculators to stay clear of all government farmlands, saying anyone caught in the act will face the full wrath of the law.
