Contrary to different versions of online reports specifying number of deaths when a trailer rammed into Ojodu Grammar School, in Ikeja area of Lagos earlier today, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer; DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu said number of those who died were yet to be ascertained as at 5pm when our correspondent spoke with him on phone.
In his words, “I cannot confirm now as details are still sketchy, but the driver of the trailer has been arrested and vehicle recovered while normalcy has been restored.”
He added that the injured victims, about eight of them have been taken to hospital for treatment.
The accident was said to have occurred when the trailer driver was escaping from Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) officials who were doing some check at Ojodu, Ogba area of Lagos. The trailer had reportedly run into some students of the Grammar School, Ojodu which resulted in some fatality.
Consequent upon this, other students and hoodlums pursued the truck since the truck sped off after knocking down the students and was caught up with, near Excellence Hotel Ogba. The truck was reportedly damaged in the ensued
rampage which created a riotous scene during which about four other trailers/trucks were said to have been vandalized and damaged by the mob.
However, it took the swift intervention of men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) led by its Commander, Yinka Egbeyemi, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) who raced to the scene and restored normalcy.
