Burial activities for the late Pioneer Commander of the State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, CP David Ajibola Akinremi begin tomorrow.
According to the release by the family of the late Amotekun Commander, the final burial activities begin with a service of songs on Friday July 7, 2023, at Milestone Hotel & Suite, Ajah, Lagos at 4.00pm.
On Saturday 8th July, the late CP Akinremi shall lye-in-state at 10.00am at Wesley Cathedral, Olowogbowo, Apongbon in Lagos, while the final funeral service shall take place at the same Wesley Cathedral by eleven o’clock in the morning.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, via his Twitter account on Thursday, the Inspector General of Police, Egbetokun commiserated with the family and friends of late CP David Ajibola Akinremi.
The IGP noted that the late commander was an officer with outstanding service record adding that the late Akinremi’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of Nigerian citizens was an exemplary one.
The statement read: “The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, on behalf of the entire officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, commiserates with family, friends and loved ones on the sudden demise of retired Commissioner of Police, CP David Ajibola Akinremi, psc(+), a distinguished and highly respected member of our law enforcement community, whose death occurred on Sunday 25th June 2023.
“CP David Akinremi, who was appointed as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1986, served with unwavering dedication and made significant contributions to the safety and security of our country.
“His commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting the rights of citizens, and maintaining peace within our communities was exemplary. He was a former Commissioner of Police in charge of Taraba State, Head of the IGP X–Squad, and Deputy Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. Until his demise, he was the Commander of the State Security Network Agency (Amotekun), appointed by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.”
In his condolence message, Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun lamented that the death of the pioneer Ogun state commander of the Amotekun Corps, David Ajibola Akinremi, brought a sad moment for residents and indigenes of the state.
The governor who expressed sadness over the untimely death of the commander said the demise was a great loss to the security architecture of the state.
Prince Abiodun described the late Akinremi as a gallant officer, who contributed in no small measure to the peace and security currently being witnessed in the state.
According to the governor, the collaboration of the Amotekun Corps under his leadership with other security agencies has helped in ridding the state of crimes and criminality.
“This is a sad moment for us in Ogun State. Commander Akinremi was instrumental in our efforts to rid our dear State of crimes and criminality.
“He contributed in no small measure to the state of peace and tranquility currently prevailing in Ogun State. We will miss his immeasurable contribution to the state.
“I commiserate with the family he left behind. I also commiserate with the rank and file of the Amotekun Corps. Our government will do the utmost to lessen the pain of his exit both on the family and the Amotekun Corps,” the governor said.
