The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has warned perpetrators of children abuse and other human trafficking cartels that it would no longer be business as usual.
Mr Aloysius Obiorah, Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Enugu State, stressed that children’s rights are inviolable and sacrosanct.
A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Denny Manuel Iwuchukwu in Enugu on Thursday reported Obiora as saying this at the state headquarters of NSCDC while hosting a delegation of the Network Against Child Abuse and Trafficking (NACTAL).
NACTAL is a non-governmental organisation engaged in advocacy and campaign for children’s rights, anti-human trafficking, human rights abuse and child labour.
The commandant, who sympathised with victims of child abuse and maltreatment, assured the delegation of the NSCDC’s robust support and cooperation.
Obiora also appealed to the general public to report cases of such abuses for a decisive action and prompt arrest of the perpetrators.
He lauded the “giant” strides of the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi, whom he said was bent on repositioning the Corps for effective service delivery to the nation.
Earlier, the State Coodinator of NACTAL, Mrs Amarachi Kene, solicited the support of NSCDC in the fight against child abuse, including sexual abuse and other forms of maltreatment of children.
She recalled that over the years, NSCDC had been a staunch supporter of the group adding that the group was on a campaign in Enugu to sensitise the populace to the evils of child abuse, child labour and child trafficking which, like a triplet devil, deprive the full potential of children.
