Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on security agencies in Benue state to investigate the killings of about 25 persons in the state and bring the culprits to book.
In a statement in Makurdi on Friday and signed by the State Chairman of the group, Mohammed Risku and Secretary, Ibrahim Galma, MACBAN condemned the coordinated killing of about 25 persons in some communities in Guma, Logo and Tarka LGAs of the state in the early hours of Tuesday.
The group also distanced itself from the killings in the three Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The statement read in part: “This is in response to the recent killings in Guma LGA on 11/4/2022, Logo LGA and Tarka LGA on 12/4/2022 in Benue State.
“MACBAN Benue State chapter has condemned these acts of brutal killings of innocent people in Benue state in totality.
“Our condolences to the families of the victims, Benue State Government and the entire people of the state for this loss.
“We wish to state that, the said attacks were not carried out by our members in the state as it’s been stated by (some sections of) the media.
“There is no single Fulani herder in Tarka LGA and in Guma LGA, there are no misunderstandings or provocation between the farmers and herders, particularly in the areas where the attacks were carried out.
“Therefore, we call on the security agencies to go after the culprits of these crimes, wherever they are, in the interest of justice.” the group stressed.
