A 55-year-old man, Emmanuel Amaize, has been arrested by operatives of Edo State Police Command, for allegedly slaughtering his 65-year-old father- in-law, Bayo Iremoje, with a machete.
The incident was said to occur at about 7.30 pm, at Ate community, near Igarra, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state.
SECURITY REPORTERS.Com sources said there was misunderstanding between the suspect’s mother and his father when she visited the deceased’s place which led to the slapping of the woman.
Neighbours in the compound were said to have already intervened and resolved the issue between the woman and the deceased, reminding them that they were in-laws.
However, the aggrieved woman later narrated the ordeal she suffered in the hands of Iremoje when he came back home. The narration reportedly infuriated the young man who went and confronted him.
A fight that ensued pushed Amaize to use matchette on his father in-law. Iremoje who was rushed to the hospital by neighbors was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The suspect had been arrested by operatives of Igarra Police Division, and later transferred to the Homicide Department at the Command’s headquarters in Benin, for further investigation.
