The Federal Government has been called upon to deploy more security personnel to Takum local government council area of Taraba state.

Mr Shoban Tikari, Chairman of Takum local government council of Taraba, made the call sequel to the killing of his police orderly by gunmen suspected to be bandits.

The gunmen on Saturday opened fire on his vehicle in Dogo-Gawa village in Takum LGA killing the deceased policeman of the 67 Mobile Police Squadron, located in the area.

Tikari, who confirmed the attack, said the militia, in their numbers, launched an attack on his motorcade while on his way to Takum, claiming the life of the deceased in the process.

The chairman, declined giving the name of the deceased, but called on the Federal government to deploy more security personnel to the area.

Recall that Takum and Wukari councils, in southern Taraba have in recent times witnessed a surge of bandit attacks leading to the death of civilians and security personnel.

Only last Friday, gunmen attacked residents of the Dogongawa community in the Takum local government area of the state where about 2000 inhabitants were displaced and some others missing.

James Orya, a resident of the community, who spoke to newsmen recounted the ordeal of the villagers, “There is a major road that passed through our community from Takum to Katsina-Ala and vehicles usually ply the road, so seeing the two Hilux vans was not strange until their occupants started firing gunshots at us.

“About 2000 residents of the community have fled and most of them are taking refuge in the neighbouring Benue State.

“The attackers burnt over 30 houses, injure two persons, and cut down economic trees during the raid on the community,” he said.
