The Kogi State Commissioner for Environment, Honorable Adewale Omofaye has escaped being kidnapped on Sunday evening but was shot in the leg.
SECURITY REPORTERS.com learnt that the incident occurred between Ikoyi and Iyara at about 5pm on Sunday evening.
It was further gathered that the commissioner was on his way to Lokoja travelling with two others in his vehicle when over five suspected kidnappers opened fire at his vehicle.
Omofaye sustained gunshot wounds from the kidnappers’ bullets but he and his co-travelers were able to escape from the scene of the attack.
The commissioner, was said to be stable after the escape.
It was also gathered that some other road users were abducted and taken into the bush by the kidnappers.
The Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area who is also ALGON chairman in Kogi State, Honorable Isah Taufiq was reported to have since mobilized the vigilantes and hunters in search of those abducted by the kidnappers.
The Ikoyi-Ijumu Development Association (IDA) leadership has indicated that it was highly impressed with the very swift response of the Security personnel, especially, the DPO at Iyara and Vigilantes, including the hunters under the direct supervision of Ijumu LG Chairman, security agencies, vigilantes, making effort to rescue victims.
The Olukoyi has also visited the site of the incident for on the spot assessment.
When contacted, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP William Ayah said the command was yet to be briefed about the development.
