The Edo State Police Command has stepped up investigation into the murder of a lecturer with the University of Benin, Edo State ,Maxwell Eseosa Aimuen.
Aimuen was shot dead by gunmen believed to be assassins while he was driving into his compound.
The 33-year-old lecturer in the department of Public Administration, was shot dead on Saturday, June 12, at his home entrance in Isihor area of Benin City while he was driving into his compound.
It was gathered that his assailants shot him several times before fleeing the scene. He was said to have been rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The Public Relations Officer of the university, Benedicta Ehanire, confirmed the incident to reporters in Benin.
A senior police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he was not supposed to speak to the Press, said: “We have started investigation into the murder; we can’t say whether it was an armed robbery attack or assassination. We leave our investigation open. We can’t conclude. But be rest assured that we must get to the root of the matter”.
