Gunmen have allegedly killed two security men at St Joseph’s Cathedral Church in Ekwulobia, Aguata local government area of Anambra State.
They were reportedly killed for attending a prayer session at the church during Monday’s sit-at-home order.
The incident occurred a few hours after the prayer session.
But Anambra Police spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident, said only one person was killed.
He said the hoodlums invaded the area around 10.30 pm on Monday, shooting non-stop along the road close to Aguata local government secretariat before the bullet hit one of the church security men.
Tochukwu said no arrest had been made but the command had deployed more forces to the area.
He said investigations were still on, adding the command would not relent in making sure the perpetrators were apprehended.
An eyewitness ,however, faulted the police angle saying the police were wrong to have said only one person was killed.
The source further said the hoodlums ran riot in the area without any challenge from anywhere.
The development heightened tension following the incessant killings in Anambra State since last Thursday.
Some alleged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had warned on Sunday that people should not come out on Monday for any prayer session as directed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
They further threatened to deal with anybody seen outside, adding that the Monday sit-at-home must be observed.
But the National Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, countered the directive, saying they didn’t emerge from IPOB.

OSUN MUSLIM GROUP PROTESTS, ASKS STAKEHOLDERS TO AVERT IMPENDING RELIGIOUS CRISIS
By Charles Nwabardi
A Muslim group, Osun Coalition of Muslims for Justice, has raised an alarm over alleged plan by officials of Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), to cause religious crisis in Osun State.
The group led by clerics during a protest at Oke-Oniti area, Osogbo, on Tuesday, alleged that the NRC officials are taking steps to convert a piece of land already granted to the Muslim Community for use as a Muslim prayer ground for the use of one Pastor Solomon.
Speaking with Journalists during the protest, Barr. Qoseem Odedeji, called on the stakeholders to quickly wade in and call the new leadership of NRC to order and caution him against causing religious war in the state.
Noting that the piece of land had been allocated to the Muslim community since 2015 with a condition that no permanent structure is built on it, he said, “Since then, the Muslim Community has continued the use of the land for the purpose for which it was granted and abiding with the condition attached.
“However surprisingly, and in an attempt capable of causing serious religious unrest, some people in collaboration with the officials of the Nigeria Railway Corporation are using clandestine and illegal means for their pecuniary interest to hijack the piece of land from the Muslim Community and give same to one Pastor Bukola Solomon who is known to have encroached on many other land around Oke-Onitiri, Railway setback, Osogbo building permanent structures on them.
“This is high level of insensitivity and an action capable of causing religious unrest. We want to on behalf of the entire Muslim Ummah, warn that Muslims will not fold their arms. when a piece of land meant for the use as Eid prayer ground is being converted to other use.
“We therefore want to call on all stakeholders and lovers of peace to call Mr Innocent Agbaji and his friend Pastor Bukola Solomon to order in the interest of peace,” he added,
When contacted, the Area Manager of NRC for Osun and Kwara, Innocent Agbaji, said the land in question has been revoked.
“My predecessor allocated the land to them. But, when I assumed office, I revoked the land when the two parties are fighting over the land which led to them beating Railway Corporation police who went there to settle dispute.
