Suspected armed herdsmen reportedly attacked Aliko community in Usha Council Ward, Agatu Local Government area of Benue state killing nine persons, including a pregnant woman.
The gunmen numbering over 15 were said to have launched the attack on Sunday around 4pm.
The chairman of Agatu Local Government area, Hon.Yakubu Ochepo, who confirmed the attack disclosed that over 500 persons were displaced and many others wounded.
“Seven corpses have been recovered, including a pregnant woman and other victims,” he said.
Ochepo called on the State and Federal Governments to provide security to the People of Agatu so that they can go back to their farming activities.
Agatu, a town located in Benue South Senatorial District, has been under sustained herdsmen attacks since January 2024.
When contacted, Benue State Command Police said it was yet to get the report on the incident.
