Niger Delta Youth Council, NDYC, a vibrant group in the region has rejected the proposed National Water Resources Bill, describing it as a well calculated plan to further enslave Niger Deltans, particularly the Ijaws.
The Group under the leadership of Amb. Comrade Mamamu Bene Youkore, popularly known as Young Chief had alerted Niger Deltans to wake up and totally reject the proposed bill.
NDYC made this known in a statement jointly signed by the duo of Amb. Comr. Mamamu Bene Youkore, President and Comr. Shadrach Onitsha Ebikeme, Secretary, a copy of which was released to the Press.
The duo of Mamamu and Onitsha noted that if the Bill was not rejected and allowed to be passed into law, it could be dangerous to the already suffocating Niger Deltans and Ijaws in the Nigerian state.
According to the group, there are already too many unfriendly laws militating against the progress of Ijaw nation and Niger Delta, stressing that listing the proposed National Water Resources Bill to will be too much to bear hence it has to be rejected by all means necessary.
They continued that the Bill is not necessary at this point of Nigeria’s existence, adding that the national assembly should promote Bills that will propagate national unity than division.
The Group, noted that despite the growing desperation by the federal government for the passage of the Bill and the series of disinformation handed members of the National Assembly, the National Water Resources Bill has lots of ambiguity, confusion and treasonable acts.
“The Bill will tear our fragile unity. They have taken the crude oil, water and the lives of the people. It is obnoxious and wicked to the Niger Delta and the ijaw nation. The Bill raised lots of suspicion. To us in Niger Delta, particularly the Ijaws. Water is life.
The Statement further noted that the Nigerian State had taken too much from Niger Delta while adding that such moves would be resisted.
