Goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed in a fire outbreak that engulfed a plaza located opposite the popular Jugbale Market at Ovwian in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Eye witness account revealed that the fire which started at about 11pm on Monday had eight shops completely razed down.
SECURITY REPORTERS.com gathered that most of the affected shop owners were wholesalers who had their shops stocked with goods worth several millions of naira. Some of the shops were provision stores, boutiques, GoTV authorized office, modern beauty salon studio and others. Shop owners were said to have gone home after the day’s work when the incident occurred. No death was recorded from the outbreak.
The one-storey building has the upper section completely razed during the fire outbreak which was alleged to have been caused by power surge.
Some of the shop owners who rushed to the scene of the incident on Tuesday morning lamented that their entire “lives have been destroyed by the fire.”
They alleged that fire fighters whose attention was drawn to the incident did not respond until their property had been razed.
According to them, it took the efforts of sympathisers and other residents in the area to prevent the raging fire from extending to other numerous shops in the vicinity.
