FCT police rescue minors, arrest suspected traffickers

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command on April 27, 2024, at around 8:00 p.m. at Kagini Junction, Abuja rescued five minors and arrested two female suspected traffickers.

A statement by SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, disclosed that the suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, were intercepted while attempting to convey the five children into the Federal Capital Territory.

“The suspects, who initially attempted to escape arrest from Sokoto police operatives, were finally apprehended by our eagle-eyed officers in Abuja,” Adeh said.

The rescued children, whose ages range from 6 to 12 years old, have been handed over to the Sokoto State Police Command for further investigation and reunification with their families.

“We are working closely with our counterparts in Sokoto to ensure that the children are safely returned to their loved ones,” said Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Benneth C. Igweh.

He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police immediately.

The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to combating child trafficking and other crimes in the FCT.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents, especially our children,” he emphasized.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

The FCT command assured that the police will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of all.
