Bishop Felix Duruebube of the Mercy House Church International, Eliozu near Port Harcourt, accused of defiling a 16-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
A Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt on thereafter granted him bail.
Duruebube who is facing two charges of defilement and forcing the girl to take an oath with him was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Obiareri Anugbum.
However, he was unable to meet the bail conditions, which include provision of N2 million surety immediately and thus, he was remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.
Chairperson of International Federation of Female Lawyers, FIDA in Rivers State, Adata Bio-Briggs, while speaking to our correspondent complained of pressure from religious leaders to drop the case against the Bishop.
She urged religious leaders to desist from always trying to bury criminal matters involving pastors.
The FIDA Chairperson who added that she was disgusted at the number of church members that attended the court proceedings called on Christians to test the spirit behind their pastors.
