Abiodun OBA
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Monday advised traditional rulers in the state, to be wary of their utterances and associations
The governor gave the admonition at the inauguration of the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, as the new chairman of the Council of Obas in the state held at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.
Governor Abiodun admonished the monarch to remember that their revered stools were built to sustain the political and socio-economic development of the state advising them not to allow any politicians to cajole them into actions that could endanger a peaceful atmosphere for an election to take place in the state come 2023.
Abiodun also urged them to call any politicians or subjects of their lands causing a crisis and disrupting the peace of the state because of the 2023 election to order warning that anyone caught in the act would be dealt with in accordance with the full wrath of the law.
He said,” As the general election for 2023 draws closer it is also important for our traditional rulers to be wary of their utterances and associations.”
“Our royal fathers should not allow themselves to be cajoled into actions that will bring the traditional institute into disrepute. The traditional council should be built on the integrity and socio-economic development of the state.”
“Our kabiesis must understand that by the virtue of their sacred stools for which they sit, whatever it is they say, whatever it is they do will have very deep meanings and implications on the political and socio-economic atmosphere.”
“Our royal fathers should use sacred offices to engender a more peaceful atmosphere for the successful conduct of the year 2023 general elections and the continued development of our dear state.”
“We will not allow anybody to take our propriety for granted or allow anybody to form political class or anywhere to undermine the peace we enjoy in our dear state today. We will not allow anyone either from within or outside the state to introduce to our system culture of violence” the governor added.
He, therefore, advised all the traditional rulers to mobilise their people to participate in the ongoing continuous voters’ registration exercise by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, in the state.
“I also enjoined you to educate our people not to allow themselves to be tools in the hands of unscrupulous elements and desperate politicians who want to hold on to the tiniest threat for their political survival or truncate the steady and continued development we have in our dear state,” he stressed.
