Former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has called on Nigerian youths and indeed politicians to be God fearing, agents of peace and desist from soiling their hands with blood.
Jonathan stated this when he spoke at the Interdenominational thanksgiving service of Akwa Ibom state to mark the states 37th years of creation on Sunday.
He advised Nigerians especially Akwa-Ibom youths to continue living in peace, noting that whoever that kills to become a leader has automatically become a murderer and would continue to kill.
“Nigeria youths are very important in the electoral system and democratization of the country. Since the adoption of democracy as a system of government in the country, politicians have misused the youths. Some of the youths are bodyguards, arm bearers and thugs to most of the politicians in the country,” he said.
The former president appealed to the people to vote wisely come 2023 gubernatorial election, adding that the good works of governor Emmanuel Udom should continue after he leaves office.
On why he doubted Udom when he was contesting for governorship election for the first time, Jonathan said Udom came from a private sector and had no knowledge of politics.
He said he was surprised when he saw Udom developing the state with the knowledge he acquired from the private sector.
While commending the governor for his good works and sacrifices to his people, Jonathan who is widely referred to as the epitome of democracy in Nigeria reminisced how people sabotaged his government by vandalizing government properties.
