A Federal High Court in Abuja has stepped into the long running crisis in Balogun Business Association (BBA), Alaba, Lagos and granted the application of the Association and its leadership led by Chief Anselm Dunu to move to quash a purported decision of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), revoking the current Certificate of Registration of the Association.

The application of the association is for orders of certiorari, prohibition and injunction arising from a letter addressed by the commission to some of the lawyers involved in the imbroglio.
The order followed an application made by six members of the market for themselves as incumbent chairman and secretary respectively of caretaker committee of the association representing other incumbent members of the committee upon an ex-parte motion seeking an order granting leave to them to quash the letter issued by revoking and cancelling the certificate of registration of the association.

The order also sought for directive to the respondent to remove and expunge from its records any entry revoking and/or cancelling the 1st respondent’s said certificate of registration or in the alternative a declaration that the respondent’s revocation and cancellation of the 1st applicant Association’s certificate of registration Cert. No. 6801 dated the 3rd day of July, 2008 is unlawful, null and void.

Furthermore, they sought a consequential order of mandatory injunction directing the respondent to remove and expunge from its records any entry revoking and/ or cancelling the 1st applicant association’s said certificate of registration amongst others.

After hearing the case, the court therefore ordered a leave to be granted the applicant for orders of Certiorari, prohibition and injunction against the respondent within 7 days of the order.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday traders at the multi-billion naira market had raised alarm over alleged plans by a group to conduct elections into the leadership of their association outside the market and called on security agencies to urgently intervene to avoid bloodbath.

The aggrieved traders alleged that one of their past Presidents, Chief Okey Ezeibe, had plans to foist an illegal leadership on the association by conducting election outside their market and vowed to stop his plans.  They stated that the former President has been creating unnecessary disharmony and crisis in the market with a view to perpetuating himself in power and foisting his cronies on the leadership of the association
